The research was conducted as part of an agreement between the Department of Design / DensityDesign Lab at Politecnico di Milano and PoliS-Lombardia, aimed at investigating the emergence and evolution of topics of public debate at regional and national scales through Digital Methods, with particular attention to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Major events with significant social and territorial implications, such as the Olympics, often generate public debates and controversies. The research explored how Digital Methods can be used to identify, monitor, and analyze these discussions, providing insights to support stakeholders in understanding public discourse and informing more effective and participatory decision-making processes.
In collaboration with PoliS-Lombardia, the research focused on five thematic areas, investigating their representation and evolution across multiple online platforms, including Google Search, Google News, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter). Research activities involved the collection, analysis, and visual representation of digital data to examine emerging narratives, relevant actors, and patterns of public debate.
