‘Mapping the Republic of Letters‘ is a Stanford Humanities Center project to map thousands of letters exchanged as part of the 17th and 18th century Republic of Letters. Powered by the studies of 7 faculty members and dozens of students, the project investigates the correspondence of 13 influential intellectuals and their relationships with other big names of that time.
On 2011 DensityDesign started partnering Stanford team and this ‘narrative panorama’ is one of the results of the on-going collaboration.
It represents the network of people who contributed to the project from its birth in 2008, the subjects of the various parts of research, related events, places and milestones: the model of the panorama, as well as the visual tone of the visualization, concurs to the narrative level that tells how all these elements shape the story of a quite motley academic project.
